sweet let me put my glasses on geez yeah why I can see now now you can see
0:08
clearly now yes I can see clearly now the snow is gone unfortunately yeah unfortunately yeah so like it was weird
0:16
uh when I went to bed last night there was not a lot but there was more snow on
0:23
the ground last night when I went to bed than there was when I woke up which is normally was coming a downpour yeah but it's I don't even know how that happened
0:29
I don't know it melted off overnight with no sun or anything suns were low
0:34
like I don't know where it went the only thing I can accredit to accredit it to
0:39
would be the fact that the ground was probably a little still a little warm yeah I mean because we've had some warmer days and then it was also pretty
0:45
soggy too it was a soggy snow that's fair but like we went to bed and we're like ree is going to be excited oh Stoke
0:52
levels were way up is going to be excited uh and then we wake up and I'm like oh shoot where did it's where did
1:00
this snow go I did enjoy that two-hour delay though yeah I did enjoy that I know the kids enjoyed it uh we got some
1:06
extra time with them this am we got out and um enjoyed the half centimeter snow that
1:13
we did have Reese was excited to to get out there very disappointed to learn that she did not in fact have enough
1:20
snow on the ground to build a no man yeah no no man's today uh were there were no mans today yeah absolutely no
1:26
mans to be built so hopefully one day we'll get but it's a sign of what's to come hopefully hopefully I hope we get
1:32
some snow this winter listen the the dad got none last year no the dad burn mountains this morning though phenomenal
1:39
gorgeous so I was driving in mixing with the color of fall it's like clashes I was driving in and I hated the fact that
1:45
I did not have uh my zoom lens same um
1:50
because there was this perfect perfect composition mhm and I and by perfect I literally
1:58
mean perfect we had a mix of seasons on the bottom of the mountain there's still some Fall Foliage and we had snow capped
2:05
up top but the way that the the light was peeking through little spots on was
2:11
only hitting the color side so you had this kind of like cooler more dark deep
2:16
ominous snow in the background with the beautiful Fall Foliage being illuminated
2:22
and unfortunately the only thing I had on me was my little Fuji with a 23 mil which well is
2:28
not is not a 7200 I'll tell you what else is not a 7200 and that is One
2:34
Singular shot of Kodak gold in a 6x6 roly flex no which is what I pulled over
2:40
at 53 mil right at yeah right at some mil uh I pulled over in Ben mcin tur's
2:47
uh business parking lot shout out MC Turf and MC Turf Rock Holland on the Chucky Pike on the Chucky Pike I pulled
2:52
over in that driveway and and fired off my last shot at Gold cuz I saw that same scene yeah um it probably won't turn out
2:59
but I have a very eloquent caption if it does um so stay tuned who knows stay
3:05
tuned stay tuned yeah well you may see it on the gram you may not it may be crap hey so that brings me to something
3:12
that I didn't mean to to mention yeah um but we're here talking about things that
3:17
may or may not happen and you shot it with potential intention of posting it
3:22
yeah you even got a caption oh I've got the caption already down like already already ready yeah my camera roll is
3:29
full mhm of photos that probably will never see a lot of day but I took oh yeah
3:35
spent time editing processing all those things with the intent of posting it to
3:41
social media and why they have not been posted to social media I can only say I
3:48
can only say the only reason it's not is because in order to post them all I
3:53
would have to post multiple times per day yeah um which do good to post once a day well
4:01
this is why over on the Tik Tok specifically I've been doing photo carousels because I've I've had that same issue of oh I've got all these
4:08
beautiful edited images but I'm just freaking lazy and don't post them on a daily basis so yeah might as well post
4:13
five at a time in a carousel yeah well I mean you even do that on Instagram Instagram now because we've changed the
4:19
algorithm again they're rewarding carousels oo there's your social media hot hack
4:26
tip of the day I'm currently still being you're still TI talk viral so you don't care about Instagram still being no
4:31
Instagram I'm still being rewarded for a particular real um that I'm really not sure why it
4:40
has taken off it's just a lot is it the white balance one uh no it's setting your white and your black points yeah
4:46
that's the one that's the one with the alra option key why would that not be viral you know that's my question because I thought it was something that
4:51
everybody knew already I was like I'm going to share this but I'm sure I'm going to get people saying dude I've
4:57
been doing this for 10 years I know that I know that trick you know I'd say to that post why not why not that post I
5:04
mean it has 31k views on phenomenal Instagram not to not to count like the
5:10
700 bagillion that you have over on Tik Tok from it Tik Tok that one is my most watched Tik to video viral you're viral
5:17
don't understand anyways virality um but yeah so why do I take
5:23
all these pictures with the intent of sharing it social media and then it never makes it social media don't know I
5:29
don't know probably for the same reason that I spend you know whatever amount of dollars on a roll of film shoot the roll of film develop the roll film scan the
5:35
roll of film and then it doesn't see the lie to day if I do that it's probably because
5:41
the the photos just didn't turn out well yeah I mean there's that too yeah there's that too because film does have
5:47
that it does have that poti especially with me at the helm I'll go ahead and tell you I'm not
5:53
going to that's that's another story for another day a fun story nonetheless not fun at all we've all done it but yeah
6:01
instant feedback not something you normally get with film but uh I have found a way to do that and I'll talk about that later but today I was
6:09
disappointed yeah that I did not have my zoom wi so much to the point that if the temperatures don't change I may try and
6:16
capture that photo tomorrow that that beautiful may try and capture that tomorrow with the appropriate lens So
6:22
speaking of of things clashing Seasons clashing colors clashing one thing in my past that has clashed has been my energy
6:29
and Focus levels in relation to my caffeine consumption Clash from the past Clash from the past we'll call it see
6:36
that uh you know as a longtime friend/ business partner I've struggled with my caffeine habit uh in the past upwards of
6:43
up to, 1500 milligrams a day at times dang yeah just just to feel normal I think the daily recommended is no more
6:49
than 500 yeah dealt with some afternoon energy drink Cravings some massive
6:56
crashes which is why yep whenever our Fringe over at Magic mind reached out with their mental performance shot I had
7:02
to give it a try yeah I was at rock bottom with caffeine consumption or on the top everyone at or at the top
7:08
however however you want to look at it um but I did I wanted to try their M performance shot and I have been
7:13
absolutely astounded at the difference that it's made in my focus my energy levels my ability to hold a conversation
7:20
and not just totally be tired and brain fogged out that's helpful uh yeah thanks to the shot now this is not a
7:26
replacement by any means this is designed to be a supplement ation to your normal daily caffeine consumption
7:33
but with me I was able to reduce that's nice no longer feel the need for that afternoon energy drink that's healthy
7:38
actually absolutely absolutely my heart is thanking me I'm more focused I'm more present with my family more present
7:44
during our conversations and folks uh Magic M has been kind enough to provide a discount code for you that is motion
7:51
20 for up to 48% off of your magic M subscription oo a subscription yeah one
7:56
thing cool with the subscription they ship it straight to your door uh and at any point in time if you want to cancel that subscription there are no questions
8:02
asked you you can do that and uh you are good to go so nice yeah magic mine thank you guys and matter of fact I think I'm
8:09
going to get it shipped to your door yeah I'm G to dial one up right now I actually got a text message yesterday
8:14
saying my new shipment was on its way nice it's like a subscribe and save
8:20
situation yeah subscribe and save boom yeah I think actually with the subscription model um it reduces the
8:27
cost down to just under or right at $3 a bottle nice yeah give it a whir meet and
8:33
ters Jared get us to the meet and ters yeah actually it's an interesting thing that I I
8:39
see asked on social media a lot um and just in general get asked a lot and it's
8:46
it's a question that I myself have asked at various times but it's basically what what is the difference between a
8:52
zoom lens and a prime lens why would you do one over the other so basically today we're going to talk about zoom lenses
8:58
versus prime lenses juicy which is fun get a battle going in the comments below I've been waiting for a good battle that
9:04
well this may this is a bit polarizing who you talk to um so well we'll just
9:10
start with zooms um because generally when you purchase a camera it's going to come with a kit lens which is going to
9:16
be a zoom um so it's you're not going to come as a shock to you that the zoom
9:22
lens is super versatile right uh even a kit lens at least from a focal link
9:28
perspective super versatile I mean it's multiple focal lengths uh yeah most of
9:34
your kit lenses are what like an 18 to 55 or I know some of them are even like a 55 to 200 got a lot of different
9:41
lenses within that one barrel so you've got just massive versatility like you
9:47
could go 24 to 105 which is generally an F4 um which isn't that fast but it's at
9:53
least constant throughout which is going to be an improvement from your variable aperture but I have a 24 to 70 and I
10:00
bought it really early in my career and I've taken care of it and I still use it Con constantly today so lenses are great
10:08
Investments period but that 24 to70 on it it's really cool because with the Canon uh 24 to70 that I have it has a 24
10:15
marking a 28 mm marking 35 50 and a 70 so that's five lenses that well that's
10:22
it that's marked not counting all the ones right not all your in between focal 53 millimeter or whatever 40 you know
10:29
but all of those are already marked on there because they're common focal lengths and you have all that in one
10:35
lens yeah so being able to cover from 24 mm which is pretty wide all the way to
10:41
70 mm which is starting to touch to telephoto lens got some versatility there super versatile super super
10:47
versatile very versatile uh so with and and specifically too with the 24 to 70 one
10:54
thing that I I love about that that specific lens is a lot of those
10:59
uh a lot of those are stabilized a lot of your kit lenses are your 24 to 7s are
11:04
your 24 to 105s so that's another thing with variable or with uh with zoom lenses is a lot of them are stabilized
11:10
and all that means is it's going to reduce some camera Shake yeah as you're out there shooting so lower shutter
11:16
speeds lower light things like that it's going to keep that image steady so that you reduce the chances of having a
11:22
blurred image yeah well so the the I guess I guess one of the cons of a zoom
11:29
link m is they're pretty costly they are costly even on the used Market on the up front
11:35
on the up front but if you if you break it down how like what it would cost you to buy all of those primes even just
11:41
those five primes I was going to say the value proposition though I don't think it's a con well again right off the bat
11:48
up front cost yeah for sure it's it's an expensive cost like you could get couple primes in some cases for the price of
11:53
one of those zoom lenses but if again if you tried to buy all five of those F way way way over the mark way in excess so
11:59
they are they are costly up front but value proposition again just with the versatility and all of the focal links
12:06
I'm terrible at math but whatever 70 minus 24 is how many focal links is that that uh 70 minus 24
12:14
is 45 potential lenses yeah basically uh
12:19
is what you have with one yeah so you don't have to change the lens and you've got and you've got all those fens and
12:26
really again if we're if we're talking about exceptional math here let's say that you bought those five prime lenses even on the used Market at an average
12:33
cost of let's say $700 Pere if you're getting quality if
12:39
you're getting quality primes we'll say $700 times 5 that's $3,500 that you would have to spend
12:45
versus getting a used 24 to70 or my Canon which is the version two EF
12:52
there's three EF versions and now even in the RF line that's more expensive but my version to Canon ef4 70f
13:00
2.8 I bought used from KH for I want to say it was like 12 or 1300
13:08
bucks something like that I got my 24 to70 Tamron which is you know the the Tamron version of your lens I got it for
13:14
800 bucks on KH there you go so I mean it's value proposition on a zoom is out
13:19
the roof it is now another con to it is it is slower yeah it is generally going
13:25
to be slower versus your primes like until very very recently Canon now has
13:30
an RF version that is an F2 they were mostly as fast as possible
13:36
with an f2.8 which is pretty fast especially if you're coming from a kit lens
13:41
perspective f2.8 is pretty fast compared to the 35 to 56 but you can get primes
13:48
that are 1.2 1.4 1.0 even I've seen a few for any who's new we're talking on
13:54
aperture here so like how wide your lens opens up the the iris in the middle think of it as the eyeball which lets
14:00
more light to the sensor right um it also controls what's in Focus that's faster just means it lets in more light
14:06
yes whenever we're talking about that so so they are generally slower compared to
14:12
their Prime counterparts um which may not be the end of the world but know
14:17
that you know f2.8 is not f1.4 correct correct well and and specifically when
14:23
you're getting into like a quality Zoom I think one of the big advantages if you're thinking well I've got a kit lens
14:29
it's a zoom one of your big advantages with a quality Zoom is it is going to be a fixed aperture so if if you've ever
14:36
taken notice if you're zooming in on a kit lens and as you zoom in your image starts to get darker right that's
14:41
because those lenses as you zoom they close the aperture yep okay but with a
14:47
quality Zoom like a 24 to70 F28 they're going to stay at 28 throughout the whole
14:52
Zoom range so you're going to keep the same amount of light hitting the sensor it's not going to darken your image any right just some some things to think
14:58
about if you are wanting to even upgrade from a zoom to a higher quality Zoom yeah um they're going to be fixed after
15:04
most of your kit lenses for whatever reason there's probably a mechanical reason but yeah I think it's just an they're 35 to 56 they vary uh they're 35
15:12
on the wide end yeah uh and on the tight end they're all the way into 5.6 versus
15:17
an f2.8 which is f2.8 at 24 millim and it's also f2.8 at 70 mm so like you
15:24
don't have yeah it's it's very handy uh and definitely an improvement if you're coming from a kit lens yes the other con
15:31
if if if weight is a problem zoom lenses are generally
15:36
decently sized well they have so many glass elements in them yeah they have way more glass elements in them they're
15:42
kind of heavy compared to a prim LS yeah especially if you get like a an old
15:47
school like 70 to 200 that are all all metal construction they're about 3 feet long yeah so they're physically going to
15:54
be bigger and they're physically going to weigh more in most cases so if weight is a problem for you you don't want to
15:59
be lugging around an ex or a heavy lens or don't want to hold a lens that heavy
16:05
all the time you know note that uh zoom lenses are generally heavier yeah yeah they're just going to
16:10
have more weight to them but I mean the versatility of them literally is is is
16:16
is unmatched unmatched so like depending on what you're doing zoom lenses may be
16:21
the call but also primes may be the call yeah so like pros of a prime lens and
16:27
what a prime lens means is if if you don't know what this means it basically means that it is a fixed focal length
16:32
one focal length one focal length does not zoom this lens is a 35 millim period
16:38
does not zoom does not change it's 35 um they are generally sharper yeah they're
16:43
generally sharper um because they don't have moving Parts they're generally
16:49
sharper they have fixed glass elements they are they're typically sharper and they're typically faster yeah on that on
16:55
that note as well and we've talked about that kind of with the zoom lens but like I have I have an 85 and it's an old EF
17:04
Mount but I have an 85 1.8 yep I have a 50 1.4 yep and I have the sigma art 35
17:13
MH 1.4 y the fastest zoom lens I have is an f2.8 so I've got three lenses right
17:19
there in my bag that are already a stop already a whole stop of Life faster than
17:26
the zoom lens well and as you get into your more premium primes too you go all the way down to f1.2 some of them are
17:31
f95 so like so much light is Led in at that point in time that the only the
17:36
only thing to be cautious of there is yes they are sharper yeah but harder to acquire Focus yeah I mean you've got to
17:43
have yeah you've got to be you've got to be really good at nailing your focus and
17:48
uh whether that's through having good autofocus uh being good with your Servo
17:53
points whatever um yeah focal plane certainly small at 1.2 yeah that's what
17:59
we call shallow depth of field that's what gives you that beautiful creamy bokeh in the background that everybody
18:05
loves they love to blow out their backgrounds so they're sharper and they're faster um and because of them
18:12
being fixed focal lengths they're generally lighter yeah they're usually smaller and again there's less glass
18:18
elements in them yeah and I wish I had brought my two like I could have brought a 35 and a 24 to70 and physically shown
18:24
you the different sizes uh but they're generally smaller yeah um so if size is
18:31
an issue or if weight is an issue uh maybe maybe at that point you're
18:36
considering uh prime lenses as as your uh in your kit um now on to the cons of
18:43
a prime because it is a fixed focal length literally the only way for you to change your
18:50
composition is to do one of two things you can either swap lenses yep go to a longer lens or a shorter lens or what
18:57
you want to do you move your Fe yeah you are the zoom at that point in time whereas right here at 24 to 70 I could
19:03
shoot you without moving my body and feet M at all kinds of different focal lengths yeah how many was yeah whatever
19:09
you want to do 40 something 45 uh 45 focal lengths versus if I have a 35 on here yeah I can't shoot a different
19:17
photo unless I move right or change lenses soang on a second you said 70 minus 24 right yes yeah 46 ex me yeah
19:26
not 45 so 24 to 70 is 4 potential focal links um and we'll talk about the in
19:33
between focal Links at the tail end of this video when we we kind of help you with the decision that you may be having
19:38
to make but the prime or the the the con of a prime literally is the only way to
19:44
change your composition yeah you're limited to your movement or changing the lens lens which in some cases you
19:49
physically may not have time right you may not have time in a crucial moment of sorts if you're shooting weddings or if
19:55
you're like a running gun documentarian for uh photographer like you may not have time to make that switch cuz things
20:02
are happening that you have to capture right then you can't say wait carry two bodies with two different
20:09
lenses or you move your feet um so on the con side of things what this may
20:14
mean in some cases is if you're if you have a 50 which 50 is my favorite focal length for anyone wondering it's a 50
20:22
but close second would probably be 40 yes yes um actually a perfect lens for
20:27
me probably be like a 43 or 45 but all right Mr Leica hey it's a fun focal
20:33
length anyways let's say I have a 50 on the front of my lens or on the front of my camera the 50 is lens I have a 50 on
20:38
my camera and I'm in a scenario where I need to get wider to fit all the subject
20:46
in the frame whatever the subject is but I'm at the back of the wall
20:52
physically cannot back up further TR you're in trubl trouble yes 50 is I mean
20:59
that's that's that's the con potentially of a zoom and and that sometimes does present itself yes of a prim L sorry
21:05
excuse me however if I had my 24 to 70 and I had been at 50 most of that day
21:10
because I like to live there retract it a little all I do is back out to any any
21:16
focal length all the way back to 24 so it there that's really the only con I
21:22
could say to primes is is they're not as versatile they're not as versatile Speedy with work purpos well and again
21:29
too with when we talk about features uh most of your primes are not going to be stabilized either no that's true so that
21:34
that's one thing to consider again with it being faster if you are shooting wide open um and you're already worried about
21:41
acquiring Focus just understand you're probably going to induce a whole lot more camera Shake because it's not stabilized especially at longer focal
21:48
length the the longer you go on the focal length 50 70 85 135 yeah you're gonna have more camera Shake because you
21:55
physically can't hold it still enough 85 is a very common focal length uh portraits and stuff like that so that's
22:00
a good one to think about and that's pretty long you you depending upon your shutter can definitely impact sharpness
22:07
of that photo at 85 mm it's less of an issue with wider lenses yeah yeah wide lenses not a lot of camera shake your 24
22:14
is your 35s heck even 40 and 50 typically can be held pretty steady but soon as you start hitting 70 yeah gets
22:21
it gets a little harder to hold them a steady unless you're just like a dead bur statue well but stabilized lenses
22:26
especially coupled with some halfway decent Ibis which is image stabilization the cameras have you can have a whole
22:32
stop and sometimes more yeah of stabilization to Aid in you know letting
22:39
the appropriate amount of luminance hit the sensor um so that's something to also think about primes I don't I don't know that I've ever seen a prime that's
22:45
stabilized I don't think there is one um I mean there may be but I know obviously the bodies are like our our Lumix bodies
22:52
are stabilized so like that that happens but I don't know of any prime lenses that are maybe somebody can put one in
22:58
the comments blow if you know of it that'd be cool cuz I don't that'd be cool that would be cool um but all this
23:03
came about because literally this week or last week a few days ago whenever it
23:08
was someone posed the question of zooms versus Prime yeah the P group
23:14
specifically want to know like hey what are if you like primes what are your favorite focal links and why and I think
23:21
that's a decent question to to be asking but I also think that it may be the
23:26
wrong question to be asking and the reason why I say that is because my favorite shoe in size yeah May differ
23:33
from mine well it's probably not going to fit your foot well what's what's funny though is is specifically in in the group you know everybody chimes in
23:40
with well this is the one that stays on the front of my camera this is the one and it's like well again that's good for your situation yeah but I I think
23:47
there's something and Jared you actually have a YouTube video on this specific subject which I would lead people to
23:53
because I think it's great video um but you have a very a very good tip on how to discover what your focal length may
24:00
be yeah and it's simple I mean it really is it's going to take some time but I also think that it's more important to
24:07
find a shoe that fits your foot yes Cinderella I.E a lens that fits your style and your
24:15
natural eye for composition or or four lenses I mean whatever your whatever whatever you're whatever it is but like
24:21
whatever you can swing if you're someone who's looking to buy lens and you're stuck on a Zoom versus a prime maybe you
24:28
want to go Prime to save the weight uh potentially save a little bit of money all those things but you're not sure
24:34
what focal link to get right I think what you should do is rent a you can rent one for cheaper if you go a 24 to
24:41
105 if not rent a 24 to 70 or heck borrow it from another
24:46
photographer and don't worry at all about the focal length right just shoot just go shoot yep just go shoot and
24:53
shoot the way that you would shoot and do multiple session shoot
24:59
whatever style you shoot I mean I'm seriously don't worry whatever about what focal length you're you're landing
25:05
at because that that comes after shoot three or four sessions whatever then take all those photos into
25:12
Lightroom and through the metadata I believe if you hit I on your keyboard Twice first one's going to be like date
25:17
and time but you're going to get the metadata of the metadata shutter speed your aperture and focal length this is
25:23
where it comes into uh this exercise becomes really helpful just note go
25:28
through pick your favorite images go through pick your favorite images note what focal lengths you uh landed at with
25:36
that particular lens that is a great tip well and it may not be 50 on the nose it
25:41
may not be 35 on the nose but if you land at 37 mm that's a point in the 35
25:47
mm bucket you're going to start to hopefully maybe and you may not we use our third grade math skills here in
25:53
round you may start to see a specific focal length sort of rise to the top she
25:58
shines through it's like oh I spend a lot of time at 48 mm 53 mm 50 may be my
26:04
move 50 is the way that my like me I spend a lot of time at that 105 I might
26:10
you may you may need to get a longer lens but all that to say if you look at your photos and the ones that you enjoy
26:17
yeah those are going to be the ones that you felt the most natural with anyway the way I compos an image is different
26:23
than some people for instance I have to challenge myself to shoot especially horizontally with like for because I
26:29
really struggled to simplify a scene with a wide millim lens most people do and isolate the subject some people some
26:35
people are great at it like popes yes they're great they're great at it uh Peter McKinnon exclusively used the 24
26:43
mil for years he used it for portraits which was wild wild yeah I find that I
26:48
can compose images the way that I prefer the easiest with a 50 minute but I know
26:54
that because I've well you've spent enough time shooting I've spent enough time time to and even with my 24 to 70 I
27:00
will find myself frequently in the metadata 47 mil 48 mil 52 mil like
27:06
hovering around that 50 mil that's just where I like to be in relation to distance to my subject all those things
27:12
so if you do that exercise and you you really want a prime lens that should
27:18
help you isolate which one you and most people are going to be fine with like a 35 or a 50 those are the two common ones
27:26
but if a 50 it's your workflow rocket by the 50 rocket by the 50 50 is a great
27:32
focal length yes 50 is a great focal length it's it can be wide and inclusive wide enough but it can also be tight
27:39
with minimal to zero Distortion yep so anyways that's my favorite focal length and that's how I have learned that I
27:46
prefer 50 yeah and I think that tip really helps too because if you have somebody who is so on the fence about
27:52
what to buy they may discover like hey I I land on a couple different focal length
27:58
in which case you might want that Zoom you may want that 24 to 70 so it it may answer the I think actually that will
28:04
answer your question uh fairly speedily if if you are wondering well gosh which should I get if you liked a hundred of
28:10
the photos total from that set and you don't have a clearcut winner yeah then
28:16
you know yeah buy the zoom L because here's the thing I constantly use my 24 to70 yeah for professional word y
28:23
sometimes I take a prime out um but I also love of again the versatility that
28:30
a zoom lens offers yeah um with speed of workflow I mean I've got tons of other
28:35
lenses but the downfall is I've literally got to change the lens in order to use a different lens well I
28:41
think you and I have both mentioned in the past that the 24 to70 specifically is the Jack of all traits I would call
28:47
it the master of none master of none but I I can take that lens into any any
28:53
situation get whatever I want photo video whatever that's that's a I actually remember this is I don't know
28:58
if you remember this or not but when you were looking at purchasing a lens you were really
29:06
heavily influenced and this was this is current YouTube State vlogging was huge
29:12
casy neat Peter McKinnon they had first blown up I wanted the 16 to 35 you
29:17
wanted the 16 to 35 which is wide yeah really wide great for vlogging yeah and
29:22
and looking back on that in my wisdom now um I would have hated that lens cuz I spend almost no time that wide no
29:30
unless unless I'm actually walking around vlogging your preference is certainly tighter composition but I
29:35
remember well even just longer focal length period I just I like I like having a little more compression typically yeah well I remember you
29:42
mentioned in the 16 to 35 I was like ah I don't know dude the the 24 to 70
29:47
certainly not as wide but but it has almost all those has almost all those
29:53
and it's and so yeah you ended up with the Tamron 24 to70 secondhand and have
29:58
it still using so again it also kind of depends on the application and what you
30:04
want to do if you are have any desire to shoot Sports I would not buy a prime lens no
30:12
not to shoot Sports now if you want to shoot portraits on the side sure get you a prime lens if that's what you want but the versatility the versatility you need
30:19
a zoom and the speed at which you can change compositions and focal links you need a zoom lens now if you're a portrait photographer again do that
30:26
exercise figure out what which focal length you prefer to work at and yeah if you're a portrait photographer in studio
30:33
like you you know we can go ahead and take a wild guess as to why 85 is going to be your
30:39
favorite yeah because it's like the portrait lens of portrait lenses but yeah if you're stuck on the fence of
30:46
trying to figure out why you should buy a zoom or a prime I really think that exercise can
30:52
help anybody and again you can do it for free try before you buy yeah try it before you buy if you've got a photographer that you look up to that
30:58
owns a 24 to 70 see if they'll let you have it for a weekend yeah and then literally go shoot a bunch of things and
31:04
then see what you like and see which one you like see which focal links you land at I think uh I think that would help
31:10
tremendously I think all these tips are things that uh would be good to consider in making your decision uh certainly
31:15
helpful there are also Jared some things that our audience can do yeah that would
31:20
be helpful for us what are those leave us a review yes uh on any of the platforms uh give us yeah give us a r
31:28
stars and bars as we say listen you can't uh you can't fix what you don't know is broken so if we're broken uh let
31:35
us know let us know in the com let us snow o nice hey also I want to know in
31:41
the comments below because I really I'm waiting for a battle to break out in the comments I think that would be hilarious I want to know what your favorite focal
31:46
length is and why yeah also I want to know if you're a primer or a Zoomer and
31:51
why yeah I would love to know that as well let us know all those things it was interesting I would dare say the
31:57
clearcut winner in that particular group's comment section 3514 was the 35
32:04
but that there's an asterisk there they're all portrait photograph I was going say you've got Bonnie and Melissa
32:09
in there who I know that 35 stays on the front of their bodies like and that's great and here's the thing like you can
32:16
just to to quickly recap you can make any lens like work for you you can make
32:22
it do what you want to but if it's not natural for you like if you struggle like I could I could be a portrait phot
32:27
phographer at 24 mil yeah like it can take portraits yeah you're just going to be up in their nose with the camera and
32:33
it's also not my preferred like look way of looking at the world all those things
32:39
so like it just it's if it's not if there's friction there MH don't do it
32:44
then don't do it don't do it so again maybe you're maybe you're that 85 person
32:50
who can just I can shoot everything on 85 yeah might as well might as well but I do I want to know those things leave
32:55
me in the comments below also don't forget to check out magic mine yes for your subscription of the mental performance shot you discount code
