Work smarter, not harder | A content creator’s perspective

Feeding the beast of “Social Media” enough content and frequently enough is a scary concept. In our experience, our clients tell us that the fear of not having enough content or not having good content keeps them from ever starting. Truly, the fear of failing is a very real thing and can be crippling.

WHat if you only have 1 good Idea?

I’m glad you asked this question because that’s really all that you need! You have good ideas, I know you do. We chatted about this very thing on a recent podcast episode. You should check it out if you haven’t listened to it already. Here’s the jist of it: We broke down the information in the photo below because we’ve seen this work for all of our clients.

1 idea = 100+ pieces of content

Tim Stoddart via LinkedIn

Tim is an absolute wizard when it comes to content and upon reading this information, it may seem impossible to stretch 1 good idea into 100+ pieces of content. Don’t let that fear keep you from applying the underlying strategy in the post! Trust me, you can do this for your business!

You know your business and you know your audience, so I know you have good ideas for content. Put that idea out there, then re-package it for other platforms. Even if you’re only on 1 platform, you can still apply this principle and here’s how.

Let’s say you’re a boutique owner and you just got in a new line of winter clothes. You need to get the word out to your audience.

  • Make a video demonstrating some of the combinations on a model (this shows your inventory, but also helps position you as an expert in the field)

  • Take photos of all of the clothes on a model (to post as a carousel or as individual posts)

  • Take a few photos of the clothes on the rack displayed in your boutique (this is a great chance to make a single post/story introducing the new line to your audience)

I think you can see the point of Tim’s post, here. 1 idea (the new product line for the winter) can easily become 5-6+ posts.

You may be wondering, “why are you suggesting photos and videos of the same items?” I’m glad you asked. Some people prefer to consume via video format and some prefer image carousels. In addition to individual preferences, the video post (due to the algorithm), may not reach everyone in your audience, so you maximize your efforts by having the additional posts like the carousel.

Final Thoughts

You have good ideas. You know your audience and you know your subject matter. I know you can create good content with this strategy. Re-purposing and re-packaging your single idea allows you to maximize the effectiveness of that idea and makes content creation on social media just a little bit less daunting.
