Community is essential

While on set at a production in Nashville, Tennessee, the key speaker uttered these words: “Again, the power of connection”. Hearing that out of context it doesn’t sound very helpful. Heck, I don’t think it’s even a complete sentence on it’s own if I think back to English class. However, what Lauren Regula, the founder of Strong Mom, was telling the audience was a bit of their backstory. When she and her husband were starting their first gym, they were hitting road block after road block. The biggest hurdle that they had to overcome was finding a location for their gym. They finally found a location and they were ready to ink the deal on a lease. But, through a series of letters and conversations, it looked as though the building that they had picked out and agreed to rent was no longer going to be an option because the owners of the building did not want a gym in their building.

Here’s where those words at the beginning come into play.

At the bottom of the final letter, that effectively said they couldn’t rent this building and start their gym, was a name. It just so happened that the name sounded familiar to Lauren and her husband, Dave. It turns out, the name was familiar and it was a childhood best friend. This is where the story gets really good. Dave, was able to get on the phone with the childhood best friend and explain the situation. Ultimately, they were able to make things work and they were able to start their gym in that building.

What does this have to do with anything and why do you think I needed to hear this, you ask?

The Power of Connection - Connection Web

Strong Mom Conference - Nashville, TN 2023 - Lauren Regula - “Connection Web”

It’s a story that tells the power of connection and community. Lauren punctuated her story with “Again, the power of connection” because without the connection, they would have never been able to start their gym. Well, not without starting again from ground zero and finding a new location. Dave knew the guy and because of that connection, they were able to move forward and start their business.

We’ve all heard the phrase “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”, right? Well, this is another example of that being proven true. A connection made today may be the key to a future success in life.

Today, Lauren and Dave run an online coaching business that helps mothers navigate the struggles of life and motherhood. The business is called Strong Mom and you can check out their website here: Strong Mom. Lauren is a 3x olympian and her story is really amazing to hear.
